CHRISSANESS
Iām Chrissa
A prismatic enigma
My story is as unique as my art. I was born both male and female. I struggled to find my identity, so in embracing contradictions, I was able to find my voice through art. I started making art on the street as a young teen, carving stone pipes and playing songs on the street corner to earn a meal. My first art job was sketching Johnny Depp at age 17 for Tim Burton. I was later a pioneer in the medium of Borosilicate glass, developing techniques used by artists all over the world. Glass is great medium, but through transposing my motor skills, and academia, I discovered ultra-effective methods for harvesting gestalt allusions of the fresh gardens ever-birthing popular culture. I earned a BFA in Interdisciplinary art, and later my Masters degree from California College of the Arts.
I have a special ability to draw correlations between disparate materials and perspectives to develop fresh concepts, without being married to original ideas. I employ gestalt response and synonym, or similarity, to illicit something already inhabiting inside the viewer. I produce compositions that combine absurdist humor, celebration, and subjective honesty. My works embody acts, topics, and sensations that are often considered taboo, as they inhabit and quantify the every day in a divided society. I explore themes that dare the viewer to look at themselves with honestly and irony.
